Using Scott Bechtel in Champaign was a great experience. We were relocating to Champaign from the Chicagoland area and he made looking for and buying a house fun and enjoyable for my wife and I. We had a bad experience with a specific realtor when we bought our house in the Chicago suburbs 3 years ago and were not happy with the process of selling that house at the end of year either, before moving to Champaign. So my wife and I's expectations were a bit low for our house hunting trips in Champaign, but we had a great friend recommend Scott as "the best."

Scott was more open and honest about the homes, areas, problems, opportunities, etc. than I expected him to be. Most people think the realtor is only out to make money on selling a home, not necessarily looking out for the buyer. But Scott walked through each house and gave an honest opinion on the condition and asking price and overall what he thought, not guiding us either way, just telling it like it is.

On Sunday, he had a couple of other options to look at, based on our criteria, and one that he said we should look at even though it didn't have EXACTLY what we were looking for. But when we pulled up to the house, we knew that it was the one. A charming old house on a corner lot, with refinished hard wood floors, paint colors that my wife and I loved, a wonderful bedroom for our son and many other great things.

In the end, I could not have been happier with Scott and the entire process. I felt Scott really earned his money and helped us to find and buy a great home. And the little touches that he did after we moved in were unexpected and really nice, like calling to see how we were doing and sending us little mailing cards that we could send out to our family/friends with our new address and a picture of the house on the cards.

I would strongly recommend Scott to anyone looking to buy a house in the area and I've told everyone that I know that they should use him in the future. When it comes time for my family to move into a bigger house, I will definitely be using Scott as my realtor.
